Helping your mind reach a place of ease.
The connection between mind and body can be one of health, flexibility, healing, and ease. Yet all of us have learned unhealthy behaviors, sought comfort in limiting or false thought patterns, and experienced traumatic events that can lead to dis-ease and chronic illness. Together we can walk a path that leads to the best version of yourself: someone at peace internally and able to obtain your goals externally.
“Maria helped me with coping, boundaries, and taking better care of myself. I was in a rough place before.”
LaQuisha, client for 3 years
Diverse experience
For nearly 20 years, I have been a psychotherapist because of the deep satisfaction I get from listening to people tell their past stories and accompanying them as they make new ones. I consider therapy a sacred space to explore emotions and the choices we make. In addition to my private therapy practice, I work at a community health clinic because I believe in quality health and mental health care for all. My therapeutic approach is rooted in social work training. This means I consider my clients’ social, economic, and cultural environment in combination with their minds and hearts.
Flexible approach
I use a variety of techniques that have been scientifically shown to have measurable benefit. I do not advise my clients to stay in therapy for years on end. We will develop a plan together, try different techniques, and regularly assess whether they are working for you. Some of the more common and effective techniques I use:
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
Move past trauma using nervous system exercises
Narrative
Therapy
Tell your life story, finding meaning and living your values thoroughly
Sample areas of focus
“In all my years of being in therapy, no one has given me tools that work as well as Maria.”
Mark, client for 4 years
Getting started
Studies have shown the best predictor of therapeutic success is the relationship between client and therapist. The more in-sync and understood you feel with your therapist, the more successful the outcome. Please visit the appointments page to read more about how to schedule an initial consultation.
